What is the prescription cascade?
It is the pattern where one prescription leads to another: a drug's side effect gets read as a new condition, the new condition gets its own drug, and that drug brings its own side effects. The list grows year after year. The film's makers built a chapter around this pattern and reportedly titled it Prescription Nightmare.

The wound you came in with
Every pill comes with another pill, and you are scared both to stop taking them and to keep taking them.
Hold both of those feelings.
One rule before anything else
We are not doctors, and this page is not medical advice. Do not stop taking a medication because of anything you read here. Stopping some drugs abruptly is dangerous, and tapering is a medical decision. Bring the full list to your doctor or pharmacist and ask which pill is treating you and which is treating another pill.
RFK Jr. said it plainly:
"I don't think people should be taking medical advice from me."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., House Appropriations Committee, May 2025
What the film says about it
The makers' press materials list the overmedication of children and the economics of "incurable" disease among the series' topics. The people they put on camera include a former pharmaceutical sales representative.
"You only really succeed when people are not well. And it's because there's so much money being made on chronic disease."
Brigham Buhler, former pharmaceutical sales representative, The Dr. Hyman Show
"A sick child is the best thing for the pharmaceutical industry."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Phoenix speech, August 2024

The costs around the cascade
The cascade is not only a chemistry problem. It is a bill.
- Six in ten Americans worry about affording their prescriptions, the highest KFF has ever measured, and 43 percent say cost made them skip or ration a medication (KFF, March 2026).
- About 1 in 8 US adults is currently on a GLP-1 drug, and 1 in 5 have taken one (KFF, November 2025).
- In a 2024 patient-advocacy survey, more than a third of insulin users reported rationing insulin because of cost (T1International).
A system where patients ration the pills they already have, while the list keeps growing, is a system working for someone. It is not working for the person holding the pill organizer.
The turn
The sentence to refuse is "that's just your age" or "that's just your list". You are allowed to ask why you take every single one. That question is not defiance. It is the oldest form of taking care of yourself.
"A healthy person has a thousand dreams. A sick person has only one."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Senate Finance Committee, January 2025
The next twenty years don't have to be a slow decline, and asking is where finding out starts.

No, not on our say-so or any website's. We are not doctors and stopping some medications abruptly is dangerous. Bring your questions to your doctor or pharmacist.
